No. This cover is for a shut-down unit that will not start automatically. Remove it completely before operation, including heat-pump heating. Mesh openings do not establish sufficient operating airflow.

No. It helps intercept leaves and larger debris. Water and fine particles can pass through the open mesh.
Will I still need to clean my unit?
